Bake cookies and have a “theme” party. This can be done with any theme of cookie cutters. If you only have Christmas themed cutters, no worries, many can be used for Easter (wreath, bell, angel, star etc) or Spring theme (reindeer, tree, gingerbread boy/girl etc.) Ornaments can be Spring colors with words of encouragement (hope, faith, love etc!)
- Use cookie cutters, child-safe scissors(under your watchful eye) and a plastic knife.
- Hide the shapes and let the children search for them. Give directional clues.
- Show several shapes and name them. Remove one. Can the children say which one is missing?
- Trace around each shape on a large piece of card stock. Use as a matching game.
- Cut slices of cheese, serve with crackers and apples. Cut the bread in shapes and make fun sandwiches.
- Place the shape on a piece of paper and hold it for the children. Let them paint INSIDE the shape. Or, dip the cookie cutter in paint and use it as a stamp or stencil.
- Make a shape from cardboard. Place it on a piece of paper and hold it for the children as they paint. This time the paint will go everywhere but under the shape.
- Trace the shape on a piece of cardboard. Glue one or more kinds of dried beans on the shape.
- Trace the shape on colored paper, and cut it out. Glue to another sheet of paper, creating a card to mail to grandparents or a friend.
- Cut shapes from sponges. Enjoy imaginative play with a bowl of water or partake in sponge painting.
- Trace the shape on felt. Use on a felt board for imaginative play.
- Trace the shape on cardboard. Use the pattern to decorate a t-shirt with fabric paint.)
- Create things with play dough. Make a small hole near the top with a toothpick. When it dries, thread it with a length of yarn and hang it in the room.
